Cliffside Retreat

Set on an exposed headland, this house is organized as a single long volume that steps down the site in three shallow terraces. Timber cladding was left untreated so it will grey in step with the surrounding rock, and every principal room is glazed on its seaward face to keep the horizon in constant view.

The brief asked for a home that could be closed up completely for the winter months, so the plan wraps a compact, heavily insulated core in a lighter outer layer of covered decking and storm shutters.
